Job Description

As Process Technology Engineer you be assigned focus areas as:

- Process Technology Project Engineer

- Process Technology Continuous Improvement Engineer

Process Technology Project Engineer

The Process Technology Project Engineer is responsible for efficiently delivering  process related Sustaining Capital Projects. Responsible for the execution of the initial project stages in APP to ensure projects align with and deliver on site and business strategy and goals. Responsible for ensuring projects stay aligned to site Process Technology, business strategy, product quality requirements and production capacity goals throughout the project lifecycle.    

  • Provide visible leadership to plant operations in the fields of Process Safety, Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Safety
  • Champion the execution of Process focused Capital Projects by:
    • Clearly defining Process Design Criteria
    • Clearly defining Operating Philosophies and Functional Descriptions
    • Conducting thorough options analysis and selection in consultation with key stakeholders
    • Conducting Technology Readiness Level assessment and improvement
    • Supporting the development of Engineering Deliverables ensuring adherence to the Process Design Criteria and Project Objectives
    • Supporting Risk Assessment including PHA, HAZOP, Project Risk and other risk assessment formats as necessary
    • Leading Management of Change for the Project
    • Leading the development of equipment automation and control systems
    • Supporting the equipment acceptance and vendor engagement through the project life-cycle.
    • Act as the Process Representative at Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
    • Leading the Functional and Process Commissioning activities on Process Projects
    • Leading the Pre Start-Up Safety Review (PSSR) of newly installed equipment and processes
    • Contributing to the training of Operations Personnel in newly installed equipment and processes
    • Contributing to the update of Operations documentation including but not limited to; operations manuals, work instructions, maintenance strategies

Process Technology Continuous Improvement Engineer

The Process Technology Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for contributing to compliance to site Process Performance Targets by setting operating strategy to achieve productivity, efficiency, quality and safety targets.  

  • Provide visible leadership to plant operations in the fields of Process Safety, Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Safety
  • Give clear direction to the Operations team for Process Targets and Operating Strategy
  • Develop and issue reporting on plant performance metrics
  • Investigate chronic plant performance issues ensuring clear rectification actions are developed, documented and championed through to completion
  • Follow good engineering and Management of Change practices
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to plant processing capabilities in the areas of productivity, capacity, quality and process safety
  • Develop Project Opportunities through to preliminary Project Definition (Evaluate) through the site Continuous Improvement Process and Albemarle Project Portal (APP)
  • Lead and/or plan development of alternative processes through conducting laboratory testwork, pilot testwork and/or plant trials. Apply Design of Experiment (DoE) to ensure efficient and thorough analysis
  • Apply disciplined continuous improvement processes to improvement opportunities
  • Participate in the planning, development and modification of processes, procedures to ensure compliance to Quality (including ISO 9001) and Safety Standards
  • Provide process commissioning support for the commissioning of new or modified equipment including procedure development, functional commissioning verification and process commissioning support
  • Participate in plant Risk Assessment and PHA activities as Process SME where appropriate including procedure development, functional commissioning verification and process commissioning support
  • Participate in plant Risk Assessment and PHA activities as Process SME where appropriate

Work Experience / Technical Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy with experience in Chemical Manufacturing
  • 2+ years' experience in process engineering in complex manufacturing or EPCM
  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP system (desired)
  • Expert User of MS Excel and PowerPoint, Proficient User of Word, Access, and Project.
  • LEAN certification is desired (ability to obtain LEAN certification within 12 months of hire)
  • Travel up to 10+% of time (within Australia); willingness to travel internationally.
