The annual reports of the Biotic Management Plan (PMB) are part of Albemarle's environmental commitments, derived from Environmental Qualification Resolution No. 21 of January 20, 2016 by the Environmental Assessment Commission of the Antofagasta Region (RCA No. 21/2016), which favorably qualified the Project "Modifications and Improvement of the Solar Evaporation Pond System in the Salar de Atacama".

These reports comply with the provisions of Recital No. 7 of RCA No. 21/2016 in relation to the biota, water and soil component. The PMB is an environmental commitment applicable to the Operation Phase of the Project and compiles the results of the monitoring of the environmental variables or subcomponents involved in the PMB, in their frequency and corresponding measurement methods, in order to carry out the analysis of each of the variables involved. Along with the above, the objective is also to detect early any change in their ecological status, as a result of local, regional and/or global phenomena.

The environmental subcomponents that are reported correspond to:

  • Terrestrial flora
  • Terrestrial vegetation
  • Terrestrial fauna
  • Aquatic flora and fauna (limnology)
  • Microbial mats
  • Substrate
  • Sediments
  • Water quality
  • Water table in the lagoons
  • Surface covered by lagoons
