ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, SAFETY & FIRE DEPARTMENT

We take responsibility for the neighborhood and the environment in which we operate.

The plant is located in a valley on the edge of the northern Harz Mountains, directly on the Innerste River, which flows through the factory premises. Over the years, the residential development of the city of Langelsheim grew into the immediate vicinity of the factory premises. 

The handling and production of chemical products is associated with risks for employees and the environment. Aware of this fact and taking into account the historical geographical location of the plant, we do everything we can to constantly improve our facilities and processes in such a way that these risks are safely controlled and there are no accidents that would have a negative impact on people and the environment. 

Against this background, the topics of environmental protection and process and occupational safety are particularly important at Albemarle. 

The companies located at the site are certified according to the applicable international environmental and occupational health and safety standards ISO 14001 and 45001 . One of the most important elements of these management systems is the development of continuous improvement in terms of environmental impact and occupational safety. 
 

Since the safety of our employees is important to us, we pay special attention to avoiding accidents. For example, our accident rate has been far below the industry average for many years. 

We were able to achieve this result thanks to a strong and progressive safety culture.

The plant fire brigade is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and specializes in hazards typical of chemistry

The plant fire brigade is the core of the internal Hazard prevention organization of the site. In the event of an incident, the Fire brigade qualified advisors within the framework of an on-call regulation and helpers at their side. As soon as dangers for the neighbors could arise, the external security organization (police, public fire brigades, city of Langelsheim, etc.) on.

For external communication, there is then a specially equipped staff is available to supervise the plant fire brigade in this respect. The plant fire brigade regularly exercises together with the volunteer fire brigade of the city of Langelsheim. This ensures an optimal cooperation in the event of an emergency. The plant fire brigade also provides support on request the public fire brigades outside the factory premises. This applies to for example, hazardous goods accidents.

„65 members, 7 vehicles, 3 platoons – with an on-call service of 24 hours a day," is how the head of the plant fire brigade sums up his team. Part-time and highly professional: All Members of our plant fire brigade work full-time occupation in the factory, e.g. as a craftsman or chemical worker and also serve in the fire department.

The comrades are divided into three platoons, two of which are pure fire brigade platoons and the 3rd platoon leads the medical service. The fire service does not only consist of firefighting. Internal Events, hazardous goods operations, technical assistance, ambulance operations and fire safety guards are handled by the team.

For the work in the fire brigade, a solid training necessary as well as regular theoretical and practical Exercises and further education. Courses in the district of Goslar and at the State Fire Brigade School in Celle round off the training and further education.
