Albemarle is exploring the potential sale of its Paris Grove workforce accommodation village in Australind.
Paris Grove was purpose-built to accommodate a large construction workforce for the expansion of Albemarle’s Kemerton Lithium Plant. However, in August, the company announced that the expansion would not proceed due to the downturn in the lithium price.
Albemarle has engaged leading real estate agent, CBRE, to manage a potential sales process, presenting a unique opportunity to acquire a new, high-quality workforce accommodation village in the South West.
Albemarle Vice President - Capital Projects, Joshua Rowan, said the company had worked hard to create a village of the highest standard and it was grateful for the support of the local community.
“We undertook extensive stakeholder and community engagement including a comprehensive social impact assessment to ensure that the project was accepted by the local residential and business community.”
“Based on that advice, we built an industry-leading accommodation village which will help take the pressure off the local housing market.”
“Whilst it would have been ideal to realise the full benefit of Paris Grove ourselves, we cannot control the market, so there is now a potential opportunity for another company to take over this high-quality asset.”
Paris Grove is designed, and has approval, to meet the needs of up to 849 workers and is currently equipped to accommodate 386 people.
Albemarle is the biggest investor in Australia of the downstream processing of lithium, an essential mineral in the energy transition. In August, the company announced that plans to expand the Kemerton Lithium Plant from two to four processing trains would not proceed.
