Job Description

The Position

Reporting to the Process Safety Manager the Process Safety Engineer will provide strategic level process safety advice and direction for the business.

The role will be instrumental in assisting with building, maintaining, and enhancing the process safety component of the Health and Safety management system.  The role will be required to work closely with various business stakeholders, including operational leadership and support staff to ensure systems that deliver world class process safety outcomes.

Provide process safety governance and direction by assisting with the development and implementation of systems that ensure compliance with internal and external process safety requirements.  Support site leadership in delivering and maintaining a robust change management process. Plan, schedule and execute process safety audits and process hazard analysis across the business.  Provide input into process safety investigations and ensure corrective and preventative actions are suitable, tracked and completed. 

The Process Safety Engineer will be accountable for accurate and timely reporting of process safety information to internal and external stakeholders. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance the process safety component of the HSET Management System so that it meets the requirements of recognised international standards;
  • Assist in the Development, implementation and maintenance of a system that ensures effective management of Dangerous Goods;
  • Provide direction and governance for the implementation of for the site’s Management of Change system;
  • Build and facilitate process safety competency and maturity across the business;
  • Provide strategic level advice to the business to ensure ongoing compliance with internal/external standards and legislative requirements;
  • Assist in maintaining and executing the business’s Process Safety Management Plan;
  • Assist the operational stakeholder by providing governance over process safety matters for the business;
  • Support the HSET team in delivering Operational Excellence.
  • HSE and Critical risk management.

Work Experience / Technical Skill Requirements

  • An effective communicator that can build and enhance teams;
  • Previous site-based experience working in heavy industry, mining, refining, or processing environments
  • Significant experience in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety systems, processes, and procedures
  • Highly skilled project manager
  • Effectively develop practical solutions in an operational environment;
  • Dangerous Goods management
  • Process Hazard Analysis facilitation skills
  • Experience in management of change in an operational environment

Education / Qualification Requirements

  • Degree qualified in process/chemical engineering and or a related field with demonstrable experience in delivering safety excellence in a similar industry.
